On The Wings Of The Blue Butterfly
Soon to be published!
The most beautiful butterfly on Earth is considered to be the legendary Blue Morpho....the Mariposa Azul, a magnificent Blue Butterfly found only in the rain forest of Central and South America. The legendary belief of the tribes' people of Central and South America is that the Blue Butterfly is a magical creature, and it can give the answers to the mysteries of the world, just by looking at it. These native people believe that when you do see this amazing Blue Butterfly, you must offer the Blue Butterfly your dreams, and the Blue Butterfly will take your dreams to the Great Spirit. It is believed that your life will then be changed forever. There is also a belief that if you can catch the beautiful Blue Butterfly, it would be able to reveal to you the mystery of life.
I have always known that this magnificent Blue Butterfly has held great signifiance and meaning for me in my life, but why I didn't know; however, as time goes by, the meaning of this beautiful Blue Butterfly has been revealed to me!
I would like to share with you an excerpt from my soon-to-be published book, On The Wings of The Blue Butterfly, where I talk about the beautiful Blue Butterfly.
As I leave Adam and am walking away, I am thinking that this has been the most bizarre, yet incredible meeting I think I have ever had in my life! I feel as though I have known Adam for a lifetime, and that I just happened to run into him at a coffee cafe in downtown, San Diego. Who would ever believe such an encounter; I hardly believe it myself! With this thought, I laugh out loud and think, isn’t life amazing at times!
As I am walking back to my hotel, I suddenly stop and look into a jewelry store window. Much to my surprise, there in the window is a large, royal blue butterfly! I then look in the other window and again there is another large, royal blue butterfly! I can hardly believe my eyes. As I stand on the sidewalk in downtown San Diego, and stare at these beautiful blue butterflies, I get the most incredible feeling of peace and love, and I am being given the thought that I have done well.
As I continue to walk back to my hotel, my mind is swimming with all the comments that my new found friend, Adam, had to say to me. This is an encounter that I will cherish forever.
The next morning I leave my hotel and head for the airport. My flights back home to Newfoundland are long but I don’t mind. I love travelling and I love meeting people. As I finally arrive at St. John’s airport, my husband is there to greet me. He is so happy to see me, as I am happy to see him. We hug and head for the carousel to retrieve my luggage.
During the drive back to our house, my husband asks, “What is it you would like to do for the remainder of the week?”
With a yawn, I reply, “With the way I feel right now, I just want to relax.”
He answers, “I have a suggestion for tomorrow evening.”
“What is it?” I quickly respond.
“How about we rent out a movie and spend a quiet evening at home?”
“That sounds perfect. After you get off work tomorrow, we can go to Blockbusters and see what we would like to rent.”
“Okay, after we have dinner, we can both go get a movie.”
The next evening after dinner, my husband and I head for the movie store to get a movie. I head in one direction of the store, as Dave heads in the opposite direction. For some unknown reason to me, I head directly down one of the aisles in the store that has the older versions of movies. As I look back on this, I realize that this is so out of character for me, because I always go to the section where the latest movies are displayed. However, not this time, this evening I find myself headed towards the later version movies, and as I find myself standing in the aisle, I glance at the movies on the shelves; I can hardly believe my eyes! There staring back at me is a picture of the most magnificent Blue Butterfly, and the words read, The Blue Butterfly! I am astonished!
I reach for the DVD and read the heading, which says, the only way to catch a miracle is to believe in the Blue Butterfly. I keep reading to find out that the movie is based on a true story of a ten year old boy who has been diagnosed with brain cancer, and has been given only a short time to live. This child’s one and only dream in life is to catch a Blue Butterfly. I take the DVD to show my husband, and he is as dumbfounded as I am, because I had already shared with him the meeting I had with my new found friend, Adam, in San Diego. We take the movie to the check out counter and head home to watch one of the most awe-inspiring movies, I have ever seen.
The movie is inspired by the real life story of David Merenger, who was born on August 16, 1981, in Coteau du Lac, Quebec, Canada. At the early age of six, David was diagnosed with a terminal illness of brain cancer. The doctors had given up all hope, and the child was expected to live only months.
David had but one dream, and that dream was to catch the most beautiful butterfly on Earth, the legendary Blue Morpho…the Mariposa Azul, a magnificent Blue Butterfly found only in the rain forest of Central and South America. This young child believes that if he can catch the beautiful Blue Butterfly, it would be able to reveal to him the mystery of life. In 1988 David’s dream becomes a reality, as he is offered a trip to Mexico by the Children’s Wish Foundation. David is accompanied on this special trip by an accomplished entomologist from Montreal, Quebec, Mr. George Brossard. It is during this trip that David does indeed catch the beautiful Blue Butterfly and his life long dream comes true.
Upon David’s return to Canada, a miracle happens! David’s cancer goes into remission!
